As newlyweds in a new city and a new house the adventures are endless. These adventures may occur nearby, like in the kitchen, or far away, such as another city, but they all make up the moments of our life together. We hope you enjoy keeping up with us! xoxo Lauren & Alex

Parking Kentucky-Style

Something Alex and I have noticed about Lexington is that people like to park on either side of the street, in any direction. Typically you park with the front of your car facing the direction of traffic (so always the right hand side of the road).

We grew up one state away, so how do habits like this become commonplace?

Refreshing Summer Recipes with Fruit

Love summer. Love fruit. Love gathering with friends and loved ones for picnics, cookouts and the like. Last weekend Alex and I traveled to Chicago for a bachelor and bachelorette party. It was a FABULOUS weekend and I came home with a couple extremely easy and refreshing recipes from the bridal shower that I want to file away..

SANGRIA

This recipe doesn't get any easier and you can make it in any volume that you wish! Find your favored container, filll it half way with red wine and the rest of the way with orange soda. Add some cubed/sliced fruit, apples and oranges work great and you'll typically have them in the fridge so there's no need to buy special ingredients!

RHUBARB PIE

Ingredients:
1 egg, slightly beaten, 1 cup sugar, 3 tbl flour, 1/3(ish) cup water, 1 tbl butter, 3 cups of rhubarb (and strawberries if you want), and a 9" pie shell, unbaked.

Cut the rhubarb and strawberries into 1/2 inch pieces, mix all ingredients except the rhubarb. Place rhubarb into the pie shell and then pour the mixture over the rhubarb. Bake at 375 for 45 minutes.
Thanks to Rachel Crawford for sharing these recipes with me! I might also have to ask her for her salad recipe as well... I'm trying out the rhubarb pie recipe tonight! I love rhubarb because it reminds me of summer, my mom and grandma.

Update: Turns out it's really easy and delicious. Best if eaten the same day or the day after. Here's a picture of my attempt:

Coming Home...

Alex and I have both been doing some traveling, for business as well as pleasure lately. There is something so cathartic about coming home after being away. It doesn't matter if its been a day or a couple weeks. There always seems to be those things that we look forward to doing when we come home.

I look forward to relaxing on the couch, sleeping in my own bed, and drinking my own coffee in the morning. Sometimes coming home after being away can also be stressful. If you left a mess, or unmade bed when you left, you may feel like you're coming back to a pig sty. I have definitely found that I feel much better coming home to a clean house.

This can be challenging for some people. Clean can mean two things.. Freshly cleaned as in mopped floors, shiny windows, and the lingering scent of Lysol. For others, clean just means all the clutter is put away and not visible. Usually there is only time for 1 out of 2 of those. I find that you can better enable yourself to do 2 out of 2 of those things all the time (not just when leaving for a trip) if you plan and organize your home from the get go. I find this process very rewarding.

A home is also about surrounding yourself with pieces and colors that you love as well.I happen to love that process as well. I've been thinking about starting a side business (or maybe just a hobby) of interior design and organization (did you know that it's possible to become a Professional Organizer?). As part of my pondering, I'm looking for guinea pigs! If you have a space that you hate, either for it's aesethic or functionality, please let me know!

Smell the Roses

Originally Alex was not a big fan of the roses. When we first moved in the yard look ratty and the roses were no exception.

Alex came outside today while I was eating lunch and was amazed at how many flowers there were. Looks like they'll stay. Now we probably need to brush up on how to care for them...

Really looking forward to the beautiful weather this weekend.

Beautiful Summer

If you missed the memo - the weather has gone from Spring to Summer alright. Our new house (and Lexington) remind me of how beautiful it can be outside. It reminds me of the following phrase (or hymnal):

All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful: The Lord God made them all.
