Parking Kentucky-Style

Something Alex and I have noticed about Lexington is that people like to park on either side of the street, in any direction. Typically you park with the front of your car facing the direction of traffic (so always the right hand side of the road).

We grew up one state away, so how do habits like this become commonplace?
